As local Victorian tile path installers, we lay tiled front paths across Streatham, usually as the centrepiece of a new front garden with a wall, a gate and fresh paving. Our documented tiled paths are in Clapham, Putney and Acton rather than Streatham; below is Ellie's front, side and back garden in Putney, with a new tile path to the door.
On a Streatham terrace or semi, the front path rarely changes on its own. The wall beside it is often crumbling, the gate has dropped and the rest of the front is gravel or cracked concrete. Doing the path, the wall and the paving together means the levels, the colours and the pattern all line up.
In Putney we removed Ellie's old wall and gravel, built a new red-brick wall, laid around 15m² of anthracite porcelain and a grey-and-white Victorian tile path to the door, and rehung the existing iron gate between new pillars. In Clapham, 2.4 miles from Streatham, William's tile footpath was paired with black Brazilian slate.
Streatham's front gardens are mostly clay, so the path sits on a dug-out, solid base rather than on the old surface.
A front and back garden transformation: two-level grey Indian sandstone, a sleeper retaining wall, steps, planters, eco drains, a Victorian tile path and black slate, in 2 weeks for £22,000 including VAT.
Plants and old sandstone removed from a front garden, a new base laid and the front finished in light grey porcelain, with the back sandstone patio cleaned and regrouted, in three days for £5,860 including VAT.
These photos are from Ellie's front, side and back garden in Putney SW15, including the new Victorian tile path. We have not yet documented a tiled path in Streatham.

Materials & possibilities
What goes either side of the tiles
The paving beside a tiled path sets the tone of the whole front. These pairings are all from our own case studies.
01
Black Brazilian slate
Crisp period contrast
William's Victorian tile footpath in Clapham sits beside black Brazilian slate.
02
Anthracite porcelain
Low maintenance
Ellie's grey-and-white tiled path in Putney runs through around 15m² of anthracite 60x90 porcelain behind a new brick wall.
03
Black limestone
Smooth and dark
In Balham, Emmanuel's front garden was fully dug out and laid in around 15m² of 60x90 black limestone.
Setting the levels at the door, gate and pavement
A front path has fixed points at each end: the doorstep and the gate. The levels are set between them before anything is laid, so the path falls gently away from the house, the tiles meet the step cleanly and the gate swings without catching. The new wall and pillars are built to the same levels.

Front, side and back garden refurbishment in Putney
Ellie's house in Putney had a gravel front garden with a broken rendered wall. We dug out the front, built a new red-brick wall, laid around 15m² of anthracite 60x90 porcelain and a grey-and-white Victorian tile path to the door, and rehung the iron gate, then rebuilt the side passage and back too. Three weeks, £22,000 including VAT. Drag the slider to compare the front.
How much does a tiled front path cost in Streatham?
A tiled path on its own, like Dio's with rope edging in Acton, was £3,820 in 3 days. As part of a full front garden the cost depends on the wall and paving: Emmanuel's black limestone front in Balham was £2,500 for the paving, and Ellie's front, side and back in Putney, with a new wall and tile path, came to £22,000.
Prices as shown on each case study. Every garden is different, so your price is fixed in a written quote after a free survey.
