A full front garden dig-out
The old wall, gravel and soil were taken out at the front so the new paving could go down on a proper base.
Case study · Putney SW15 · October 2025
Ellie's house in Putney had a tired gravel front garden, a crumbling front wall, a cracked concrete side passage and old paving at the back. We rebuilt all three areas: around 15m² of anthracite 60x90 porcelain and a new brick wall at the front, a new Victorian tile path to the door, and around 55m² of light grey 60x90 porcelain down the side and across the back, with a sleeper wall and eco drains connected to the manhole. Three weeks, £22,000 including VAT.
Where we started
Ellie wanted the whole outside of the house sorted in one go: the front garden, the side passage and the back garden by the doors.
At the front, the old rendered wall was breaking up and the garden was loose gravel. The side passage was cracked concrete and the back had old paving by the doors. It is a good example of the front garden landscaping in Putney and garden paths in Putney we take on.
Before & after
The tricky parts
Step by step
The front had a broken rendered wall and loose gravel, the side passage was cracked concrete and the back had old paving by the doors.
The old wall and gravel were removed and the front garden dug out, with timber frames set to the levels for the wall and path.
A new red-brick wall went up along the front and around 15m² of anthracite 60x90 porcelain was laid.
A new grey-and-white Victorian tile path was laid to the front door and the existing iron gate rehung between the new pillars.
Around 20m² of light grey 60x90 porcelain went down the side passage and around 35m² across the back, with a sleeper wall at the back.
Eco drains were set in to collect surface water and connected to the manhole.
“The front and back look incredible. The porcelain paving and Victorian tiles make it feel brand new.”

Yes. Dark porcelain like anthracite hides everyday marks well, does not need sealing and sits well with a red-brick front wall.
Yes. Here we laid a new grey-and-white Victorian tile path from the gate to the front door and rehung the existing iron gate.
They are channel drains set into the paving to catch surface water. Here they were connected to the manhole so the new paving drains properly.
