As local shed base installers, we lay concrete bases around Bromley for sheds, garden rooms, offices and bike stores, including on gardens that slope. Under a mile from the town centre in Shortlands, a shed base and new steps were poured on a steep garden using a concrete truck and pump.
A shed or garden room has to sit dead level, and many Bromley gardens do not. On a gentle slope the base is simply dug in at the high side; on a steeper one it needs a retaining edge or wall to hold the raised level. In Purley, Pedro's garden room base on a sloping site was enclosed by a 20cm concrete wall built in timber shuttering, with the concrete brought up a narrow, steep access by truck and pump.
Smaller bases are quick. Two miles away in Beckenham we laid Mark's 8ft × 10ft shed base in one day: old concrete and soil out, the area set out square and level, steel reinforcement mesh in, then poured and given a brushed finish.
In front gardens a small base can take a bike store or bin store. In Richmond we laid a new concrete base against a front wall and installed the client's metal bike store on it, checked level, in a day.
On a steep garden with access only through the house, concrete was pumped in for a base, new steps and a shed base, the steps were clad in London Stone bullnose porcelain and a 25m² grey 60 × 90cm porcelain patio was laid with a concrete edge, in one week for £9,250 including VAT.
An 8ft × 10ft concrete shed base with steel reinforcement mesh and a brushed finish, after removing old concrete and soil, completed in one day for £1,820 including VAT.

Materials & possibilities
Base options for a Bromley garden
We match the base to the building and the ground. These are the main types.
01
Standard shed base
Reinforced slab
A concrete slab with steel mesh, sized to the shed. Mark's 8ft × 10ft base in Beckenham took one day and cost £1,820.
02
Base on a slope
With a retaining wall
Where the ground falls away, a concrete wall holds the raised level. Pedro's garden room base in Purley needed a 20cm concrete wall around it.
03
Small front-garden bases
For bikes and bins
A neat base tucked against a front wall, like the one we laid for Jamie's bike store in Richmond for £1,060 including installing the store.
Getting concrete into awkward gardens
Not every garden can take a wheelbarrow from the road. Where access is narrow, steep or only through the house, a concrete truck and pump can place the concrete from the street. It was used in Shortlands for a shed base and steps, and in Purley for a garden room base and wall, and the access is always reflected in the price.

04
Cure and hand over
Let the concrete harden, then the building can go on.

Slate paving, new lawn and French drain in Clapham
Victor's back garden, between Brixton and Clapham, took 10 days: a new lawn, a French drain, a slate footpath and paving to Victor's own design, and a concrete base for a shed, with the existing deck and fence pressure washed, for £9,220 including VAT. Drag the slider to compare before and after.
A reinforced 8ft × 10ft shed base in Beckenham was £1,820 including VAT, and a small base with a bike store installed in Richmond was £1,060. Bases on difficult sites cost more: Pedro's garden room base with a 20cm retaining wall on a steep, narrow site in Purley was £15,000, much of it down to the access.
Compare like for like. Compare the base size and thickness, whether it has steel mesh, how a sloping site is dealt with and how the concrete will reach your garden.
Prices as shown on each case study. Every garden is different, so your price is fixed in a written quote after a free survey.

Concrete bases across Bromley BR1 and BR2
We lay bases throughout Bromley, from Bickley, Sundridge Park and Bromley Park to Bromley Common, Hayes, Keston and Petts Wood. Our nearest jobs are the steep garden in Shortlands and Mark's shed base in Beckenham.
We work from Norbury, SW16, and cover the whole Borough of Bromley, including Chislehurst, Orpington, Beckenham and Penge.
Our nearest shed base, an 8ft × 10ft reinforced slab in Beckenham, was £1,820 including VAT, done in one day. Larger garden room bases and sloping sites cost more; we price yours after a free survey.
Can you build a level base on a sloping garden?
Yes. In Purley we built a garden room base on a sloping site with a 20cm concrete wall around it to hold the raised level.
How do you get concrete into a garden with poor access?
With a concrete truck and pump. It was used for a shed base and steps in Shortlands, where access was only through the house, and up a steep, narrow access in Purley.
Can you lay a base for a bike store or bin store?
Yes. In Richmond we laid a new concrete base against the front wall and installed the client's metal bike store on it, checked level, in one day for £1,060.
How thick should a garden room base be?
It depends on the size and weight of the building and the ground. Garden room suppliers usually give a base specification, and the base we will lay is set out in our quote.
Do you also build the shed or garden room?
We build the base and the landscaping around it. In Richmond we also installed a metal bike store the client had bought; ask us at the survey about the building you have in mind.
Which parts of Bromley do you lay bases in?
All of BR1 and BR2, including Bickley, Sundridge Park, Bromley Park, Bromley Common, Widmore, Plaistow, Hayes, Keston and Petts Wood.
