Where we started

The brief

Jamie wanted secure bike storage in the front garden in Richmond and had already bought a metal bike store. It needed a firm, level base to stand on and fixing in place properly.

A concrete base gives a bike store or shed a flat, solid footing that will not sink or shift, which keeps the doors lining up and the store secure. It is the same base we lay for shed bases in Richmond.

The tricky parts

What went into it

01

A solid concrete base

We laid a new concrete base in the corner of the front garden, against the brick boundary wall, sized for the bike store.

02

Getting it level

A bike store with doors only works properly on a level base. The store was checked with a spirit level once it was in place.

03

Installing the client's bike store

Jamie supplied the metal bike store and we installed it on the new base.

Step by step

How we built it

  1. Laying the concrete base

A new concrete base was laid in the corner of the front garden, against the brick wall.

  2. Installing the bike store

Jamie's metal bike store was installed on the new base and checked level.

Questions

About bike store and shed bases

Thinking about something similar? These are the questions we hear most.

How much does a concrete base and bike store installation cost in Richmond?

For Jamie's front garden in Richmond TW10, laying a new concrete base and installing a client-supplied metal bike store cost £1,060 including VAT and materials, done in one day.

Can you install a bike store or shed I have already bought?

Yes. As here, you can buy the bike store or shed yourself and we lay the base and install it.

Why does a bike store need a concrete base?

A concrete base is flat, solid and will not sink, so the store stays level, the doors keep closing properly and it can be fixed down securely.

Can a bike store go in a front garden?

Usually, yes. Small bike stores in front gardens rarely need planning permission, but rules can differ in conservation areas, so it is worth checking with the council if your street is in one.

Do you lay bases near Richmond?

Yes, including Twickenham, Kingston and Putney. See all our landscaping in Richmond.
