As local gate fitters from Norbury next door, we fit timber side gates, metal front gates and new back-garden gates across Streatham, often with new fencing or a new front garden. Gemma's gate in Streatham and our nearest other gate jobs are below.
Many Streatham houses have two gates to think about: a front gate onto the street and a side or back gate that keeps the garden secure. At Kristina's home between Brixton and Tulse Hill we supplied and fitted two metal gates at the front, alongside new sandstone paving and a newly rendered wall.
At the back, a gate usually matches the fence. In Streatham, Gemma's garden was fenced with around 14 closeboard panels on concrete posts and gravel boards, and the gate was hung in the same run.
Gardens around here are mostly clay soil, so gate posts are set firmly in concrete to stop them leaning as the ground moves through the year.
A 400mm dig-out and new block paving driveway with eco drains to a soakaway at the front, and closeboard fencing, a gate, two 7m brick flower beds and a Marshalls block paving patio at the back, in two weeks for £20,000 including VAT.
Old gates and posts removed, new 6-inch posts set, and a made-to-measure pair of tongue and groove gates fitted with new hinges and locks on both sides, in one day for £2,150 including VAT.
An old fence replaced with 13 heavy-duty closeboard panels at 2m on concrete posts and concrete gravel boards, plus a new gate with locks on both sides, in two days for £3,150 including VAT.

Materials & possibilities
Choosing a gate for a Streatham home
Front gates are about looks and the street; back and side gates are about security and privacy.
01
Metal gates
Front of house
Kristina's two metal gates were fitted at the front with a new rendered wall and mint sandstone paving.
02
Timber gates to match
Side and back
A timber gate hung in the same run as new closeboard fencing, as in Gemma's Streatham garden.
03
Several gates in one job
Whole gardens
In East Dulwich, Shamir's garden got 33 fence panels and 3 gates in a single 10-day job.
Front gates and the street
A front gate needs to clear the path when it opens and line up with the wall or fence beside it. On the street side, gates and walls are usually limited to 1m without planning permission, so most Streatham front gates are low, with taller, more private gates kept for the side and back.

Front, side and back garden renovation in Brixton
Kristina's home between Brixton and Tulse Hill had worn paving at the front and an old deck at the back. Over two weeks we relaid the front and side in mint sawn sandstone, built a new rendered wall and fitted two metal gates, then rebuilt the back with composite decking and new artificial grass. Around £20,000 all in. Drag the slider to compare.
A made-to-measure pair of timber gates with new posts in Earlsfield was £2,150, and a gate with 13 closeboard panels in Croydon was £3,150. Gates are often part of bigger jobs: new paving, fencing and a gate in Perry Vale cost £8,860, and Kristina's front, side and back garden with two metal gates was around £20,000.
Prices as shown on each case study. Every garden is different, so your price is fixed in a written quote after a free survey.

Gate fitters across Streatham SW16
We fit gates across Streatham, including Streatham Common, Streatham Park, Telford Park and Streatham Hill, and over towards Brixton Hill and Tooting Bec. Our base is in Norbury, right next door.
Streatham is in Lambeth, so Lambeth Council is the one to ask about gates onto the street in a conservation area.
A made-to-measure pair with new posts in Earlsfield was £2,150, and a gate fitted with 13 fence panels in Croydon was £3,150. We price your gate in writing after a free survey.
Do you fit metal front gates?
Yes. At Kristina's home between Brixton and Tulse Hill we supplied and fitted two metal gates with a new rendered wall and sandstone paving.
Can the gate match my new fence?
Yes. In Gemma's Streatham garden the gate was hung in the same run as around 14 new closeboard panels on concrete posts.
How high can a front gate be?
Next to a road or pavement, gates are usually limited to 1m without planning permission. Side and back gates away from the road can be taller.
Can you fit more than one gate in a job?
Yes. Kristina's front got two metal gates, and Shamir's garden in East Dulwich got three gates with 33 fence panels.
Do you set gate posts in concrete?
Yes. Most Streatham gardens are on clay, so a post set firmly in concrete is what stops the gate dropping as the ground moves.
Is Streatham close to your base?
Yes. Our base is in Norbury, next door, so gates anywhere from Streatham Vale to Streatham Hill are a short trip for us.
