Where we started

The brief

Alex wanted a straightforward patio at the back of the garden in Greenwich, where there was only rough grass and a pile of old bricks.

Even a small patio needs proper groundwork, so the area was fully dug out and prepared before the stone went down. It is a good example of the smaller patios in Greenwich we build.

The tricky parts

What went into it

01

A full dig-out and preparation

The grass and old bricks were cleared and the area dug out and prepared, so the patio sits on firm, level ground rather than straight on the soil.

02

Raj Green Indian sandstone

Around 20m² of Raj Green Indian sandstone was supplied and laid. Raj Green is a mix of soft greens, buffs and warm tones that suits most gardens.

03

Two days start to finish

The dig-out, preparation and laying were all done in two days.

Step by step

How we built it

The grass and old bricks were cleared, and the patio area was dug out and prepared.

  2. Laying the Raj Green sandstone

Around 20m² of Raj Green Indian sandstone was laid across the back of the garden.

What it cost

This patio cost £2,820 including VAT for a full dig-out and preparation and around 20m² of Raj Green Indian sandstone, supplied and laid in two days. That is roughly £141 per m² all in. Larger areas, steps, drainage or a different stone change the price. See our patios in Greenwich page for more.
