Closeboard fence on concrete posts in Forest Hill

Angus's old panel fence in Forest Hill was on wooden posts. We took it all out and built around 15m of new 6ft closeboard fencing in place, on concrete posts with concrete gravel boards, running down the side of the house and on to the front garden. All waste taken away. Two days, £4,320 including VAT.

Where we started

The brief

Angus's old fence was made of panels on wooden posts, running down the side of the house to the front garden. It needed replacing along its full length.

Closeboard built in place on concrete posts is one of the strongest fences we fit: the concrete won't rot and the boards are fixed one by one, so it suits a long run like this. It is a good example of the fencing in Forest Hill we install.

The tricky parts

What went into it

01

Removing the old fence

The old panels and wooden posts were taken out along the whole run, and all the waste was taken away.

02

Concrete posts and gravel boards

New concrete posts went in with concrete gravel boards along the bottom, so no timber sits on the ground.

03

Closeboard built in place

Instead of ready-made panels, the rails were fixed between the posts and the feather-edge boards nailed on one by one, at 6ft high.

04

Down the side and on to the front

The new fence runs around 15m, down the side passage and on to the front garden.

Step by step

How we built it

  1. Taking out the old fence

The old panels and wooden posts came out and the fence line was cleared.

  3. Boarding by hand

Questions

About closeboard fencing

Thinking about something similar? These are the questions we hear most.

How much does a closeboard fence cost in Forest Hill?

Angus's 15m, 6ft closeboard fence in Forest Hill SE23 cost £4,320 including VAT, with concrete posts and gravel boards, removal of the old fence and all waste taken away, done in two days.

What is closeboard fencing?

Closeboard is built in place: rails are fixed between the posts and overlapping feather-edge boards are nailed on one by one. It is stronger and longer-lasting than most ready-made panels.

Why use concrete posts and gravel boards?

Concrete doesn't rot, so the posts and the board along the bottom last far longer than timber in contact with the ground.

This 15m run, including taking out the old fence, was done in two days.

Do you fit fences near Forest Hill?
