Where we started

The brief

Joanna's garden in Putney has a long artificial lawn running between hedges and mature olive trees. After plenty of use by dogs, the pile had flattened, the lawn looked dull and patchy, and there was a lingering smell from dog urine and poo.

The lawn itself was sound, so it did not need replacing. It needed a proper deep clean: lifting the pile, washing out the dirt and treating the smell at the source. That is exactly what our artificial grass cleaning in Putney service is for.

The tricky parts

What a full refresh involves

01

Flattened pile

Foot traffic and pets press the fibres down until the lawn looks matted. We used a power brushing machine across the whole lawn to lift the pile back up so it looks and feels like new grass again.

02

Dirt and debris in the fibres

Leaves, dust and grime work down into artificial grass and dull the colour. We jet washed the lawn to flush that out and bring the green back.

03

Dog urine and poo smells

Pet smells soak into the fibres and backing, so a rinse alone will not shift them. We treated the lawn with professional products made for removing dog urine and poo odours.

04

A long, narrow garden

The lawn runs the length of the garden between hedges and trees, so we worked methodically from one end to the other to give every part the same brushing, washing and treatment.

Step by step

How we built it

  1. Power brushing

A power brushing machine was run over the whole lawn to lift the flattened pile and loosen the debris caught in the fibres.

  2. Jet washing

The lawn was jet washed from end to end to flush out dirt, dust and loosened debris and bring back the colour.

  3. Odour treatment

Professional products were applied to remove the smell of dog urine and poo from the grass and backing.

  4. The finished lawn

With the pile lifted, the dirt washed out and the smells treated, the lawn was handed back looking fresh and green from end to end.

Budget

What it cost

This full artificial grass refresh cost £450 including VAT, covering power brushing, jet washing, professional odour treatment, materials and labour, all done in one day. Lawn size, how dirty it is and whether pet treatment is needed set the price. It is a fraction of the cost of replacing the grass. See our artificial grass page if a lawn is beyond cleaning.

Questions

About artificial grass cleaning

Thinking about something similar? These are the questions we hear most.

How much does artificial grass cleaning cost in Putney?

Joanna's full refresh of a long artificial lawn in Putney SW15 cost £450 including VAT and took one day, with power brushing, jet washing and professional pet odour treatment. Smaller lawns or a clean without odour treatment cost less.

Can you get rid of dog urine smell from artificial grass?

Yes. The smell soaks into the fibres and backing, so we use professional products designed to break down pet urine and poo odours, after jet washing to flush the lawn. Regular rinsing between cleans helps keep it fresh.

What does power brushing do?

It lifts flattened fibres so the lawn stands up evenly again, and loosens dirt and debris trapped in the pile so it can be washed out. It is the step that makes a tired lawn look new.

How often should artificial grass be cleaned?

Most lawns benefit from a deep clean once or twice a year, and more often with dogs. Brushing and rinsing between cleans keeps the pile up and reduces smells.

Do you clean artificial grass elsewhere near Putney?

Yes, including Fulham, Earlsfield, Wimbledon and Wandsworth. See all our landscaping in Putney.
