Four steps on a concrete base
The four new steps were formed and concreted so they are solid and level, then fully clad in porcelain on the treads and risers.
Case study · Crystal Palace SE19 · May 2025
Michael's garden in Crystal Palace rises from the house to a seating area at the top. We built four new steps on a concrete base and clad them fully in light grey porcelain, laid a matching porcelain patio at the top of the garden, and supplied and fitted a 3m x 6ft horizontal slatted fence. £7,000.
Where we started
Michael's garden in Crystal Palace climbs from the house up to a level area at the top. Getting up there was awkward, and the top of the garden was bare ground with no privacy on one side.
The plan was proper steps up the slope, a clean patio at the top and a modern slatted fence for privacy, all in materials that would stay smart with little upkeep. It is typical of the patios in Crystal Palace we build on sloping plots.

Yes. The steps are built and concreted first, then the treads and risers are clad in porcelain, so they match the patio and are easy to keep clean.
Steps take a lot of wear and sit on a slope. A concrete base keeps them solid and level, so the porcelain on top does not crack or move.
It is a fence made of horizontal timber slats with small gaps between them. It gives privacy with a lighter, more modern look than solid panels.
